This month I’d like to highlight the story of Janet King, 30, from Houston, TX. As a victim of childhood sexual abuse, she developed depression very early in life. She has since suffered a myriad of related issues including several suicide attempts, poverty, and homelessness.
In September of 2021, Janet was sexually assaulted again. Her case is another unfortunate example of the severe effects that childhood abuse can have on victims for the entirety of their lives. She was unable to receive help early in life, never truly healed, and continued to face compounded trauma through homelessness.
We know that victims who have previously been sexually assaulted are significantly more likely to be attacked again than those who have never experienced violence. Without community, family, friends or shelter, she became even more vulnerable.
Janet is disabled, unable to work, homeless, and suffering C-PTSD from the multiple traumas of her life. She created a fundraiser with a goal of $10,000 because she is in serious need of medical attention, therapy, and support.
